Hadith 981:7
Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us from his book, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, a sheikh narrated to us, from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying: "Whoever kills a young one or an old one, or burns a palm tree, or cuts down a fruit-bearing tree, or slaughters a sheep for its hide, will not return in a state of being free from sin."
حدثنا يحيى بن إسحاق من كتابه، حدثنا ابن لهيعة، حدثنا شيخ، عن ثوبان مولى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، أنه سمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " من قتل صغيرا أو كبيرا، أو أحرق نخلا، أو قطع شجرة مثمرة، أو ذبح شاة لإهابها لم يرجع كفافا "
