Musnad Ahmad 1012:110

Abdullah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Uthman Abu Zakariya al-Nasri al-Harbi narrated to us, Ismail ibn Ayyash narrated to us, from Abu Bakr ibn Abdullah, from Abu Salam, from al-Miqdam ibn Ma'di Karib al-Kindi, that he sat with Ubadah ibn al-Samit, Abu al-Darda, and al-Harith ibn Mu'awiyah al-Kindi, and they discussed the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Abu al-Darda said to Ubadah: "O Ubadah, [what were] the words of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in such-and-such expedition regarding the matter of the fifths?" Ubadah said—Ishaq, meaning Ibn Isa, said in his hadith—that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, led them in prayer during his expedition toward a camel from the spoils. When he finished the prayer, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood up and took a tuft of hair between his fingertips and said: "Indeed, this is from your spoils, and there is nothing for me in it except my share along with you, except for the fifth, and the fifth is returned to you. So, return the thread and the needle, and what is greater than that and what is smaller. Do not commit ghulul (stealing from the spoils of war), for ghulul is a fire and a shame upon its people in this world and the Hereafter. Strive against the people for the sake of Allah, the near and the far, and do not fear for the sake of Allah the blame of any blamer. Establish the prescribed punishments (hudud) of Allah while at home and while traveling, and strive in the way of Allah, for striving is a great door from the doors of Paradise, through which Allah saves [one] from worry and grief."
