Musnad Ahmad 1012:125

'Abdullah narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Bishr narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Umar narrated to us, and one whom I do not accuse [of falsehood] from the people of Syria narrated to me, from 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, when he saw the crescent moon, would say: "Allah is the Greatest. Praise be to Allah. There is no power and no strength except by Allah. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this month, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of destiny, and from the evil of the gathering [on the Day of Resurrection]."
