Hadith of ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit (RA)
Hadith 1012:67
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Khalid, who said: I heard Abu Qilabah narrating from Abu al-Ash'ath, from Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took a pledge from us, just as he took a pledge from the women—or the people—that we would not associate anything with Allah, we would not steal, we would not commit adultery, we would not kill our children, we would not slander, we would not bite one another, and we would not disobey him in what is good. Whoever among you commits a transgression regarding what he was forbidden from, and the prescribed punishment (hadd) is carried out upon him, then it is an expiation for him. And whoever delays it, then his affair is with Allah; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him.
