Hadith of ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit (RA)

Hadith 1012:68

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Mu‘mar narrated to us, Ibn Shihab narrated to me, from Abu Idris al-Khawlani, who said: I heard ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit say: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, among a group. He said: "I take your pledge that you will not associate anything with Allah, you will not steal, you will not commit adultery, you will not kill your children, you will not bring forth a slander that you fabricate between your hands and your feet, and you will not disobey in what is good. Whoever among you fulfills this, his reward is with Allah. Whoever commits any of that and is punished for it, it is an expiation for him. And whoever Allah conceals, then that is up to Allah; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him." ‘Abd al-Razzaq said: "If he is punished for it in this world, it is an expiation for him," or he said: "a kaffarah (atonement)."
