Hadith of Umayr, the freed slave of Abi al-Lahm (RA)

Hadith 952:3

Rab'i ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman—meaning Ibn Ishaq—narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from his uncle, and from Muhammad ibn Zayd ibn al-Muhajir, that they both heard Umayr, the freed slave of Abi al-Lahm, say: I came with my masters, intending to migrate. When we drew near to Medina, he said: They entered Medina and left me behind with their baggage. He said: A severe hunger afflicted me. He said: Some of those who were leaving Medina passed by me and said to me: "If you were to enter Medina, you would obtain some of the fruit of its gardens." So I entered a garden and cut two clusters of dates from it. The owner of the garden came to me and brought me to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and informed him of my situation, while I was wearing two garments. He said to me: "Which of the two is better?" I pointed to one of them for him, and he said: "Take it." He gave the other to the owner of the garden and let me go.
