Hadith of Umayyah ibn Makhshi (RA)

Hadith 710:1

Ali ibn Abdullah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Sa’id narrated to us, Jabir ibn Subh narrated to us, he said: Al-Muthanna ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Khuza’i narrated to me—and I accompanied him to Wasit—and he used to say the name of Allah (Tasmiyah) at the beginning of his food, and at the last morsel he would say: "In the name of Allah at its beginning and its end." I said to him: "You say the name of Allah at the beginning of what you eat, so what do you see regarding your saying at the end of what you eat: 'In the name of Allah at its beginning and its end'?" He said: "I will inform you about that. My grandfather, Umayyah ibn Makhshi, and he was one of the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, I heard him say: 'A man was eating while the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was looking, and he did not mention the name of Allah until there remained only one morsel of his food. He then said: 'In the name of Allah at its beginning and its end.''" The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "The devil continued to eat with him until he mentioned the name of Allah, then nothing remained in his stomach except that he vomited it out."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
