Hadith 1203:0
Narrated to us by Yahya ibn Sa’id, from Hisham, who said: My father informed me, from ‘Aishah, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The lizard (dabb) is not forbidden, but I do not eat it." Narrated to us by Waki’, from Hisham, from his father, from ‘Aishah, that the Prophet (ﷺ) was brought a lizard, and he refrained from it. It was said: "Is it forbidden, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "No, but it was not in the land of my people, so I find myself disliking it." Narrated to us by ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, from Ibn ‘Abbas, that Khalid ibn al-Walid entered with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) upon Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ), and she was the maternal aunt of Ibn ‘Abbas and Khalid ibn al-Walid. He found with her a roasted lizard that her sister, Hufaydah bint al-Harith, had brought from Najd. She presented the lizard to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). It was rare for the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to eat food until it was named for him and he was told what it was. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) reached out his hand toward the lizard. Then, one of the women who was with Maymunah said: "Inform the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) of what he is about to eat. O Messenger of Allah, it is a lizard." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) withdrew his hand. Khalid ibn al-Walid said: "Is it forbidden, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "No, but it was in the land of my people, and I find that I have a distaste for it." Khalid said: "So I chewed it and ate it, while the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was looking at me."
