Hadith of Umm Salamah (RA), the wife of the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 1156:245

Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Usamah ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Rafi’, from Umm Salamah, who said: Two men from the Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, disputing over inheritances between them that had become obscure, and there was no evidence between them. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "You are disputing before me, and I am only a human being. It may be that some of you are more eloquent in their argument—or he said: for their argument—than others. So I only judge between you according to what I hear. Whoever I judge in his favor regarding any of his brother's right, let him not take it, for I am only cutting out for him a piece of the Fire, which he will bring as a yoke upon his neck on the Day of Resurrection." The two men wept, and each of them said: "My right is for my brother." He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, then said: "Since you have said that, go and divide it, then aim for the truth, then draw lots, then let each of you absolve the other."
