Musnad Ahmad 1156:268

'Affan narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, he said: Ayyub narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from Umm Salamah, that Fatimah suffered from *istihada* (prolonged non-menstrual bleeding), and she used to perform ghusl in a basin of hers, and she would emerge while the yellowness and turbidity were high. Umm Salamah asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for a legal ruling for her. He said: "She should wait for the days of her period, or the days of her menstruation, and she should leave the prayer during that time. And she should perform ghusl during the time other than that, and she should bind herself with a cloth, and pray."
