Musnad Ahmad 482:135

Hassan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Al-Harith ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr, from Uqbah ibn Amir, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade cauterization, and he used to dislike drinking boiling water. And when he applied kohl, he applied it in odd numbers, and when he used incense (for purification), he used it in odd numbers."
