Musnad Ahmad 482:18

Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Abdullah—meaning Ibn al-Mubarak—narrated to us, he said: Harmalah ibn Imran narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd al-Malik ibn Mulayl al-Sulayhi—and they belong to Quda'ah—narrated to me, he said: My father narrated to me, he said: I was sitting with Uqbah ibn Amir near the pulpit on a Friday. Then Muhammad ibn Abi Hudhayfah came out, ascended the pulpit, and addressed the people. Then he recited a surah of the Quran to them—he said: And he was among the most proficient of people in recitation. He said: Uqbah ibn Amir said: Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "Men will surely recite the Quran, but it will not pass beyond their collarbones; they will pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through the game."
