Musnad Ahmad 482:44

Abu al-Mughirah narrated to us, Ma'an ibn Rifa'ah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Yazid narrated to me, from al-Qasim, from Abu Umamah al-Bahili, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir, who said: I met the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and I initiated [the greeting] and took his hand. He said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the salvation of the believer?" He said: "O 'Uqbah, guard your tongue, let your house suffice you, and weep over your sin." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, met me, and he initiated [the greeting] and took my hand, and said: "O 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir, shall I not teach you the best three surahs that were revealed in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Great Criterion (al-Furqan)?" He said: I said, "Yes, may Allah make me your ransom." He said: So he recited to me: "Say, He is Allah, [who is] One," "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak," and "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind." Then he said: "O 'Uqbah, do not forget them, and do not spend a night until you have recited them." He said: I have never forgotten them since he said: "Do not forget them," and I have never spent a night until I have recited them. 'Uqbah said: Then I met the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and I initiated [the greeting] and took his hand, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, inform me of the most excellent of deeds." He said: "O 'Uqbah, join [the ties of kinship with] the one who severs them from you, give to the one who denies you, and turn away from the one who wrongs you."
