Musnad Ahmad 509:8

Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, 'Umar ibn 'Abdullah ibn Ya'la ibn Murrah narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather Ya'la ibn Murrah, who said: I performed ghusl and applied khaluq (a type of perfume containing saffron). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to wipe our faces. When he drew near to me, he began to hold his hand back from the khaluq. When he finished, he said: "O Ya'la, what prompted you to use khaluq? Have you married?" I said: "No." He said to me: "Go and wash it off." He said: So I passed by a well and began to pour water into it, then I began to rub myself with dust until it was gone. He said: Then I came to him, and when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw me, he said: "The high one has returned to the goodness of his religion; he has repented, and the sky has poured forth."
