Musnad Ahmad 509:9

Ibrahim ibn Abi al-Layth narrated to us, al-Ashja‘i narrated to us, from Sufyan, from ‘Amr ibn Ya‘la ibn Murrah al-Thaqafi, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, wearing a large gold ring. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to him: "Do you pay zakat on this?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the zakat on this? When the man turned away, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "A great ember upon him." *** ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us—‘Abdullah said: And I heard it myself from ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah—Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from ‘Abdullah ibn Hafs, from Ya‘la ibn Murrah: That he was sitting with Ziyad, and a man was brought who had testified and then changed his testimony. He [Ziyad] said: "I will surely cut out your tongue." Ya‘la said to him: "Shall I not tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him? I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: Do not mutilate My servants.'" He said: So he let him go.
