Hadith of Yazid, from al-'Awwam

Hadith 433:4

Ali ibn Bahr narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Harb al-Khawlani narrated to us, Abu Salamah al-Homsi narrated to us, from Salih ibn Yahya ibn al-Miqdam, from Ibn al-Miqdam, from his grandfather al-Miqdam ibn Ma’di Karib, who said: I went on a summer military expedition with Khalid ibn al-Walid. My companions craved meat, so they said: "Will you permit us to slaughter a mare of his?" They had already tied it up. I said: "Stay where you are until I come to Khalid ibn al-Walid and ask him about that." I went to him and informed him of the news of my companions. He said: "I went on the expedition of Khaybar with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and the people rushed into the enclosures of the Jews. He (the Prophet) said: 'O Khalid, call out to the people: that the prayer is about to be gathered, and no one shall enter Paradise except a Muslim.'" I did so, and he stood among the people and said: "O people, what is the matter with you that you have rushed into the enclosures of the Jews? Beware, the wealth of those under a covenant (mu’ahidin) is not lawful except by its right. And forbidden to you are the domestic donkeys, and the human-like (or tame) ones, and their horses, and their mules, and every beast of prey with a canine tooth, and every bird with a talon."
