Musnad Ahmad 440:1

Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: I found in my father’s book, in his own handwriting, he said: Abu Tawbah al-Rabi’ ibn Nafi’ wrote to me, and it was in his letter: Al-Haytham ibn Humayd narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Waqid, from Sulayman ibn Musa, from Kathir ibn Murrah, from Yazid ibn al-Akhnas, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "There is no competition among you except in two things: A man whom Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has given the Quran, so he stands with it during the hours of the night and the hours of the day, and follows what is in it, so a man says: 'If only Allah, the Exalted, had given me the like of what He gave so-and-so, I would stand with it just as he stands with it.' And a man whom Allah has given wealth, so he spends and gives charity, so a man says: 'If only Allah had given me the like of what He gave so-and-so, I would give charity with it.'" A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think of bravery that is in a man?" And the rest of the hadith was omitted.
