Hadith 771:72
Hassan ibn Musa narrated to us, Zuhayr narrated to us, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, that he heard Zayd ibn Arqam saying: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, on a journey, and the people were afflicted with hardship. Abdullah ibn Ubayy said to his companions: "Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disperse from around him." And he said: "If we return to Medina, the more honorable will surely expel the more abased from it." I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and informed him of that. He sent for Abdullah ibn Ubayy, and he asked him, and he swore by his strongest oaths that he did not do it. They said: "Zayd lied to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." So, what they said weighed heavily upon my soul, until Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, sent down that which confirmed me in: "When the hypocrites come to you" [Al-Munafiqun: 1]. He said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, called them to ask forgiveness for them," but they turned their heads away. And regarding the saying of the Almighty: "As if they were blocks of wood propped up" [Al-Munafiqun: 4], he said: They were men, the most beautiful of things.
