Musnad Ahmad 939:13

Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn Abi Fudayk narrated to us, al-Dahhak ibn 'Uthman narrated to me, from Abu al-Nadr, the freed slave of 'Umar ibn 'Ubayd Allah, from Busr ibn Sa'id, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani: That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked about a lost item (luqatah). He said: "Make it known for a year. If its seeker comes, then deliver it to him. Otherwise, recognize its container and its tie, then consume it. If its seeker comes, then deliver it to him."
