Musnad Ahmad 938:76

Abdullah ibn al-Harith narrated to us, from Shibl, from Amr ibn Dinar, from Tawus, from Hajar al-Madari, from Zayd ibn Thabit, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever is granted a life-gift (*umra*), it belongs to the one to whom it was granted, during his life and after his death. Do not practice *ruqba* (expecting it back upon death). Whoever practices *ruqba* with anything, it follows the path of inheritance."
