Hadith of Zaynab (RA), the wife of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA)

حديث زينب امرأة عبد الله بن مسعود

Hadith 1180:0

Narrated Zaynab, the wife of Abdullah ibn Mas’ud: She said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to us: "O women, give charity, even if it is from your jewelry." She said: So I returned to Abdullah ibn Mas’ud and said to him: "You are a man of little wealth, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has commanded us to give charity. So go to him and ask him if it is sufficient for me to give it to you. If it is, I will do so; if not, I will give it to someone else." Abdullah said: "Rather, you go to him." She said: So I went, and I found a woman from the Ansar at the door of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who had the same need as I did. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was granted awe, so he did not like to be approached. Then Bilal came out to us, and we said to him: "Go to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and tell him that there are two women at the door asking him: 'Is it sufficient for us to give charity to our husbands and to the orphans who are under our care?' And do not tell him who we are." So Bilal entered upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and asked him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Who are they?" He said: "A woman from the Ansar and Zaynab." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Which Zaynab?" He said: "The wife of Abdullah." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Yes, they have two rewards: the reward of kinship and the reward of charity."
