Musnad Ahmad 1022:1

Abu ‘Amir narrated to us, Zuhayr—meaning Ibn Muhammad—narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Yazid—meaning Ibn Jabir—from Khalid ibn al-Lajlaj, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘A’ish, from some of the companions of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) went out to them one morning, and he was in good spirits, with a bright face, or a radiant face. We said: "O Prophet of Allah, we see you in good spirits, with a bright face, or a radiant face." He said: "And what would prevent me, when my Lord came to me tonight in the most beautiful form? He said: 'O Muhammad.' I said: 'Here I am, my Lord, and at Your service.' He said: 'What are the Highest Assembly disputing about?' I said: 'I do not know, my Lord.'" He said that two or three times. He said: "Then He placed His palm between my shoulders, until I felt its coolness between my chest, and everything in the heavens and the earth was revealed to me." Then he recited this verse: {And thus We showed Abraham the dominion of the heavens and the earth} [Al-An'am: 75], to the end of the verse. He said: "O Muhammad, what are the Highest Assembly disputing about?" I said: "About the expiations." He said: "And what are the expiations?" I said: "Walking on foot to the congregational prayers, sitting in the mosques after the prayers, and performing ablution thoroughly despite difficulties." He said: "Whoever does that will live in goodness and die in goodness, and he will be as free from his sins as the day his mother gave birth to him." "And among the degrees are: speaking kindly, spreading peace, feeding the hungry, and praying at night while the people are asleep." And He said: "O Muhammad, when you pray, say: 'O Allah, I ask You for good deeds, the abandonment of evil deeds, the love of the poor, and that You forgive me. And if You intend a trial for the people, then take my soul without being tried.'"
