Musnad Ahmad 35:13

'Attab ibn Ziyad narrated to us, 'Abdullah—meaning Ibn al-Mubarak—narrated to us, Layth ibn Sa'd informed us, 'Ubaydullah ibn al-Mughirah narrated to me, from 'Arak ibn Malik, that Hakim ibn Hizam said: "Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was the most beloved of men to me during the Jahiliyyah. When he was made a prophet and went out to Medina, Hakim ibn Hizam attended the season (of Hajj) while he was a disbeliever. He found a garment of Dhu Yazan being sold, so he bought it for fifty dinars to gift it to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He arrived with it to him in Medina and wanted him to accept it as a gift, but he refused. 'Ubaydullah said: I think he said, 'We do not accept anything from the polytheists, but if you wish, we will take it for a price.' So I gave it to him when he refused the gift from me."
