Musnad Ahmad 33:1043

Abu Sa’id, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, saying: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Mawali narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir narrated to us, saying: I entered upon Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah while he was praying, wrapped in a single garment, and his rida’ (outer garment) was placed aside. We said to him: "Do you pray in a single garment while your rida’ is placed aside?" He said: "So that someone like you might enter upon me and see me praying in a single garment. I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, praying like this."
