Musnad Ahmad 33:153

Hashim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Malik informed us, from 'Ata', from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: "We used to perform Tamattu' during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and we would slaughter a cow on behalf of seven people, sharing in it."
