Musnad Jabir ibn Abdullah (RA)

Hadith 33:214

Nasr ibn Bab narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, that he said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said to me: "O Jabir, if wealth were to come to us, I would have scooped [a handful] for you, and then scooped [a handful] for you." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away before he could fulfill that promise to me. So I came to Abu Bakr and told him. Abu Bakr said: "And we, if something were to come to us, I would have scooped [a handful] for you, and then scooped [a handful] for you, and then scooped [a handful] for you." He said: Then wealth came to him, and he scooped a handful for me, then a handful, then he said: "There is no charity due upon it until a year passes over it." He said: So I weighed it, and it was one thousand five hundred.
