Musnad Ahmad 33:221

Abdullah narrated to us, saying: "I found this hadith in my father's book, and I heard it in another place." Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb informed me, from al-Zuhri, that Sinan ibn Abi Sinan al-Du'ali and Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to me, That Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, who was one of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), informed that he went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) towards Najd. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned, he returned with them. One day, the midday rest (qaylulah) overtook them in a valley with many thorny trees. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dismounted, and the people dispersed among the thorny trees to seek shade under them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dismounted to seek shade under a tree, and he hung his sword upon it. Jabir said: We slept there for a sleep. Then, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called us, so we came to him, and there was a Bedouin sitting with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "This man drew my sword while I was sleeping. I woke up, and it was in his hand, unsheathed. He said: 'Who will protect you from me?' I said: 'Allah.' He said: 'Who will protect you from me?' I said: 'Allah.' So he sheathed his sword and sat down." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not punish him, even though he had done that.
