Hadith 33:348
Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, 'Ikrimah—meaning ibn 'Ammar—narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from Abu Salamah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: When the day of Khaybar arrived, the people were struck by famine. They took domestic donkeys, slaughtered them, and filled the cooking pots with them. This reached the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, commanded us, so we overturned the pots. He said: "Indeed, Allah will bring you a provision that is more lawful for you than this, and better than this." He said: So we overturned the pots that day while they were boiling. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade on that day domestic donkeys, the meat of mules, every beast of prey having fangs, and every bird having talons. He also forbade the *mujaththamah* (animals used as targets for archery), the *khulsah* (plunder taken by stealth), and the *nahbah* (plunder taken by force).
