Hajjaj narrated to us, Laith narrated to us, Aqil narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, who said: I heard Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman saying: Jabir ibn Abdullah informed me that he heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying: "Then the revelation ceased for me for a period. While I was walking, I heard a voice from the sky. I raised my sight toward the sky, and behold, the angel who had come to me at Hira was sitting on a chair between the sky and the earth. I was struck with fear of him until I fell to the ground. I came to my family and said: 'Wrap me up! Wrap me up! Wrap me up!' So they wrapped me up. Then Allah revealed: 'O you who are wrapped in your garments, arise and warn, and your Lord glorify, and your garments purify, and the idols avoid.' [Al-Muddaththir: 1-5]." Abu Salamah said: "The 'Rujz' (idols) are the idols." Then the revelation intensified after that and continued.
