Hadith 33:505
Hassan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us, from Jabir, that a monk gifted the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a robe of silk brocade. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wore it, then he came to the house and took it off. He sensed a delegation had come to him, so Umar ordered him to wear the robe for the arrival of the delegation. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "It is not appropriate for us to wear it in this world, and it is appropriate for us in the Hereafter, but take it, O Umar." He said: "You dislike it, and I should take it?" He said: "I am not ordering you to wear it, but send it to the land of Persia, so you may obtain wealth from it." So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, sent it to the Negus, for he had treated well those of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who had fled to him.
