Hassan and Ahmad ibn Abd al-Malik narrated to us, they said: Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir. Ahmad said in his narration: Abu al-Zubayr narrated to us, from Jabir, who said: Abu Quhafa was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)—or he came—in the Year of the Conquest, and his head and beard were like the *thugham* (a white plant)—or like the *thughama*. Hassan said: So he ordered that he be taken to his wives. He said: "Change this gray hair." Hassan said: Zuhayr said: I said to Abu al-Zubayr: Did he say, "Keep him away from black [dye]?" He said: "No."
