Musnad Ahmad 33:687

Hassan ibn Musa narrated to us, Abu Shihab informed us, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: I came with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the year of al-Ji'ranah, and he was distributing silver in Bilal’s garment to the people. A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, be just." He said: "Woe to you! And who will be just if I am not just? I would be ruined and lost if I were not just." Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, let me kill this hypocrite." He said: "I seek refuge in Allah that people should say that I kill my companions. Indeed, this man and his companions recite the Quran, but it does not pass beyond their throats—or their collarbones—they pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through the game."
