Musnad Ahmad 33:702

'Ali ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, Isma'il ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to me, Abu al-Zubayr informed me, he said: I heard Jabir saying: My eyes saw and my ears heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, at al-Ji'ranah, and in Bilal's garment was silver, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was grasping it for the people, giving it to them. A man said: "Be just." He said: "Woe to you! And who would be just if I am not just?" 'Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "O Messenger of Allah, let me kill this wicked hypocrite." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "I seek refuge in Allah that people should say that I kill my companions. Indeed, this man and his companions recite the Qur'an, but it does not pass beyond their throats; they pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through the game."
