'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr informed us, from Jabir, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us to close the doors, to tie the mouths of the water skins, to extinguish the lamps, and to restrain our livestock until the darkness of the night passes. And he forbade us that a man should eat with his left hand, that he should walk in one sandal, and [he forbade] the *samma'* [wrapping] and the *ihtiba'* [sitting with knees drawn up] in a single garment."
