Hadith 33:803

'Affan and Bahz narrated to us, they said: Hammam narrated to us. Bahz said: Qatadah narrated to us, he said: Sulayman ibn Hisham said to me: "This man—meaning al-Zuhri—does not let us eat anything without ordering us to perform ablution (wudu) from it—meaning what has been touched by fire." He said: I said to him: "I asked Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib about it, and he said: 'If you eat it, it is pure; there is no ablution upon you for it. But if it exits, it is impure; there is ablution upon you for it.'" He said: "Is there anyone in the city?" I said: "Yes, the most knowledgeable man in the Arabian Peninsula." He said: "Who?" I said: "Ata' ibn Abi Rabah." Bahz said: "So he sent for him, and he was brought." He said: "So he sent for him, and he (Ata') said: 'Jabir narrated to me that they ate bread and meat with Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, and he prayed and did not perform ablution.'" He said: "He said to Ata': 'What do you say—meaning regarding the *'umra* (gift for life)?' He said: 'Jabir narrated to me that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The *'umra* is permissible."'"
