'Affan narrated to us, Hammad bin Zayd narrated to us, Ayyub informed us, from Abu al-Zubayr and Sa'id bin Mina', from Jabir bin 'Abdullah: "That the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade *al-muhaqalah* (selling grain in the ear for harvested grain), *al-muzabanah* (selling fresh dates on the tree for dried dates), and *al-mu'awamah* (selling the produce of a tree for several years ahead) — and one of them said: and the sale of years — and he forbade *al-thunya* (the exception of a portion of the crop). And he granted a concession regarding *al-'araya* (the sale of fresh dates on the tree for dried dates in small quantities for personal consumption)."
