Musnad Ahmad 33:828

Abu Ahmad narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, from the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, who said: "People are like mines; the best of them in the Pre-Islamic Period (Jahiliyyah) are the best of them in Islam, if they attain understanding (fiqh)."
