Sulayman ibn Harb narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj al-Sawwaf, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, that al-Tufayl ibn Amr al-Dawsi came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you desire a fortified stronghold and protection?" — he said: It was a stronghold that belonged to Daws in the pre-Islamic era — but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, refused that because of what Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, had stored for the Ansar. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, migrated to Medina, al-Tufayl ibn Amr migrated to him, and a man from his people migrated with him. They found the climate of Medina unsuitable, so he became ill and grew impatient. He took some arrowheads of his and cut his finger joints with them, and his hands bled until he died. Al-Tufayl ibn Amr saw him in his dream, and he saw him in a good state, and he saw him covering his hands. He said to him: "What did your Lord do with you?" He said: "He forgave me for my migration to His Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." He said: "Why do I see you covering your hands?" He said: "It was said to me: 'We will not fix of you what you corrupted.'" Al-Tufayl narrated this to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "O Allah, and for his hands, forgive."
