Musnad Ahmad 33:887

Abu Sa‘id narrated to us, Abu ‘Aqil—meaning Bashir ibn ‘Uqbah al-Dawraqi—narrated to us, Abu al-Mutawakkil al-Naji narrated to us, from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah, who said: I traveled with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on one of his journeys—and I think he said: while raiding. When we turned back, returning, he said: "Whoever wishes to hasten, let him hasten." I was on a grey camel, and there was not the like of it in the army. I urged it forward, and the people were behind me. While I was in that state, my camel stood still and would not move. Then, the voice of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came, and he said: "What is the matter with your camel, O Jabir?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I do not know what has afflicted it." He said: "Hold on, and give me the whip." I gave him the whip, and he struck it once. The camel then went in every direction. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, then said to me: "At that, O Jabir, will you sell me your camel?" I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Proceed to Medina." When I arrived in Medina, he entered the mosque with groups of his companions. I hobbled my camel and said: "This is your camel, O Messenger of Allah." He came out and began to walk around it, saying: "Indeed, the camel is my camel." He then said: "O so-and-so, go and bring me some awaq (ounces) of gold." He said: "Give them to Jabir." I took them, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Have you received the price in full?" I said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Then the price is yours, and the camel is yours—or the camel is yours, and the price is yours."
