Musnad Ahmad 33:900

Kathir narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Retain your wealth for yourselves, and do not grant it as *‘umra* (life-tenure gift). For whoever is granted something as *‘umra* during his lifetime, it belongs to him during his life and after his death."
