Musnad Jabir ibn Abdullah (RA)
Hadith 33:990
Rawh narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah saying: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, wore one day a *qaba* (outer garment) made of silk brocade that had been gifted to him. Then, he was quick to take it off and sent it to Umar ibn al-Khattab. It was said: "You were quick [to take it off], O Messenger of Allah, why did you take it off?" He said: "Jibril, peace be upon him, forbade me from it." Then Umar came to him weeping and said: "O Messenger of Allah, you disliked a thing and yet you gave it to me, so what is for me [to do with it]?" He said: "I did not give it to you so that you would wear it; I only gave it to you so that you might sell it." So he sold it for two thousand dirhams.
