Musnad Ahmad 332:6

Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, he said: Bashir ibn Yasar, the freed slave of Banu Harithah, narrated to me, from Abu Burdah ibn Niyar, he said: I witnessed the Eid with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: I differed from my wife when I went out to the prayer, as I went to my sacrificial animal and slaughtered it, and prepared food from it. He said: When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed with us and I returned to her, she brought me food that had been finished. I said: Where did this come from? She said: Your sacrificial animal, we slaughtered it and prepared food for you from it so that you could eat lunch when you arrived. He said: I said to her: By Allah, I feared that this might not be appropriate. He said: So I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and mentioned that to him. He said: "It is nothing; whoever slaughters before we finish our ritual, it is nothing, so let him sacrifice [again]." He said: So I sought a *musinnah* (a mature animal), but I did not find it. He said: So I came to him and said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I sought a *musinnah* but I did not find it. He said: "Then seek a *jadha'* (a young lamb) from the sheep and sacrifice it." He said: So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, granted him a concession regarding the *jadha'* from the sheep, and he sacrificed it when he did not find the *musinnah*.
