Musnad Ahmad 1302:2

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Za'idah ibn Qudamah, and Waki' said: Za'idah ibn Qudamah narrated to me, from al-Sa'ib—Waki' said: Ibn Hubaysh al-Kala'i—from Ma'dan ibn Abi Talhah al-Ya'muri, who said: Abu al-Darda' said to me: "Where is your dwelling?" I said: "In a village below Homs." He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'There are no three people in a village, nor in the desert, among whom the call to prayer is not made and the prayers are not established, except that the devil has gained mastery over them. You must adhere to the congregation, for the wolf eats the stray sheep.'" Ibn Mahdi said: Al-Sa'ib said: "Meaning the congregation in prayer."
