Musnad Ahmad 1152:2

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Abu Janab Yahya ibn Abi Hayyah al-Kalbi narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Hani ibn Urwah, from Farwah ibn Musayk, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight those of my people who turn their backs with those of them who face forward?" He said: "Yes, so fight with those who face forward against those who turn their backs." When I turned away, he called me and said: "Do not fight them until you invite them to Islam." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you think of Saba? Is it a valley? Is it a mountain?" He said: "No, rather it is a man from the Arabs who had ten sons born to him. Six went to the Yemen (tiyaman), and four went to the Levant (tasha'am). Those who went to the Yemen were: al-Azd, the Ash'ariyyun, Himyar, Kindah, Madhhij, and Anmar, from whom it is said are Bajilah and Khath'am. Those who went to the Levant were: Lakhm, Judham, 'Amilah, and Ghassan." *** Abdullah narrated to us, Khalaf ibn Hisham narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam al-Nakha'i narrated to me, who said: Abu Sabrah al-Nakha'i informed us, from Farwah ibn Musayk al-Ghutayfi, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall I not fight those of my people who turn their backs with those of them who face forward?" He said: "Yes." Then it occurred to me, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, no, rather the people of Saba, for they are mightier and stronger in power." He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded me and gave me permission to fight them. When I left him, Allah revealed concerning Saba what He revealed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "What did the Ghutayfi do?" He sent to my house, and found that I had already departed, so I was brought back. When I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I found him sitting with his companions. He said: "Rather, invite the people; whoever answers, accept it from him, and whoever does not answer, do not be hasty with him until you report back to me." A man from the people said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell us about Saba, is it a land or a woman?" He said: "It is neither a land nor a woman, but it is a man who had ten sons born to him from the Arabs. Six of them went to the Yemen, and four of them went to the Levant. As for those who went to the Levant: they are Lakhm, Judham, Ghassan, and 'Amilah. And as for those who went to the Yemen: they are al-Azd, Kindah, Himyar, the Ash'ariyyun, Anmar, and Madhhij." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, and what is Anmar?" He said: "Those from whom are Khath'am and Bajilah." *** Abdullah narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Hakam narrated to me, Abu Sabrah al-Nakha'i narrated to us, from Farwah ibn Musayk al-Ghutayfi, then al-Muradi, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)... and he mentioned the same meaning.
