Musnad Ahmad 753:4

Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu Uthman, from Hanzalah, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and we mentioned Paradise and Hellfire until it was as if we were seeing them with our own eyes. Then I went to my family and laughed and played with my family and my children. Then I remembered what I had been doing when I was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, so I went out and met Abu Bakr. I said: "O Abu Bakr, Hanzalah has become a hypocrite." He said: "What is that?" I said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and we mentioned Paradise and Hellfire until it was as if we were seeing them with our own eyes. Then I went to my family and laughed and played with my children and my family." He said: "We do that too." He said: So I went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and mentioned that to him. He said: "O Hanzalah, if you were to remain in your homes as you are when you are with me, the angels would shake hands with you while you are on your beds and in the streets. O Hanzalah, there is a time and a time."
