Musnad Ahmad 403:15

Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: Ishaq ibn Mansur informed us, he said: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim—meaning Ibn Sa'd—informed us, he said: My father narrated to us, from Salih—meaning Ibn Kaysan—from Ibn Shihab, that Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah informed him, that Ibn Abbas informed him, that as-Sa'b ibn Jaththama informed him, that he gifted a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was at al-Abwa' or Waddan, and he returned it to him. He said: When he saw what was on my face, he said: "We did not return it to you except that we are in a state of ihram."
