Musnad Ahmad 403:17

Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: Ishaq informed us, he said: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim informed us, he said: The nephew of Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from his uncle, who said: Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah ibn Mas'ud informed me that Abdullah ibn Abbas used to say: I heard al-Sa'b ibn Jaththamah ibn Qays al-Laythi saying: I gifted a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, at al-Abwa', and he returned it to me. When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, perceived displeasure in my face, he said: "It is not that we rejected it from you, but we are in a state of ihram."
