Musnad Ahmad 403:31

Abdullah ibn Ahmad said: Ishaq ibn Mansur narrated to us, he said: Abdullah ibn Maslamah informed us, from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah ibn Mas’ud, from Abdullah ibn Abbas, from al-Sa’b ibn Jaththama al-Laythi, that he gifted a wild donkey to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was at al-Abwa’ or Waddan. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, returned it to him. When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw what was on my face, he said: "We did not return it to you except that we are in a state of ihram."
