Musnad Ahmad 8:103

Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: I heard my father narrating from Muhammad ibn 'Ikrimah, from Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Labibah, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, that the owners of farms in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to lease their farms for what was on the water channels of the crops, and what was watered by the water from around the well. So they came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and disputed regarding some of that. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade them from leasing with that, and said: "Lease for gold and silver."
