Musnad of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (RA)

Hadith 8:140

Yazid narrated to us, Ibn Abi Dhi’b informed us, from al-Zuhri, from ‘Amir ibn Sa’d ibn Malik, from his father, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), that a group of people came to him and asked him, so he gave them, except for one man among them. Sa’d said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you gave them and left out so-and-so, and by Allah, I truly see him as a believer." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Or a Muslim." Sa’d repeated that to him three times: "A believer," and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied to him: "Or a Muslim." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said the third time: "By Allah, I truly give a man a gift, while someone else is dearer to me than him, for fear that Allah might cast him on his face into the Fire."
